Geoffrey is a 7 year old Himalayan cross who went missing for 5 days, and when he eventually returned, had suffered a severe fracture to his femur in his left hind leg. The image below shows the severity of the break.

Geoffrey had suffered a comminuted fracture (a fracture where the bone has broken into several pieces) and had a lot of overriding (bone that has slipped out of its usual position) due to the break being 5 days old when he was presented to one of our hospitals. He was going to need surgery to repair it.

Dr Sam Haynes managed to repair the break with an interlocking nail, and has produced some great post operative results.
The video above shows Geoffrey walking just 2 days after his surgery.
Geoffrey has a good prognosis and should be fully healed up in about 3 months time. He is expected to walk normally without a limp by the time healing is complete. The bone fragments will heal together and ossify, then re-model to normal bone over time.
Interlocking nail repair techniques are often used in severe breaks of this nature.
