August is Pet Dental Month

Dental disease in pets is all too common and bacteria from irritated gums can actually harm your pet’s vital organs. In fact by only two years of age, 80 per cent of pets suffer some form of dental disease.

To protect your pet’s oral and overall health, it is important to be aware of these dental disease warning signs:

• bad breath
• yellow-brown crust on teeth
• bleeding gums
• abnormal drooling.

To help raise awareness and fight the damaging effects of dental illness, Sydney Animal Hospitals is offering:

• A free dental check-up.

About 80 per cent of dogs and 70 per cent of cats will suffer some form of dental disease before they reach three years of age. Fortunately, the best form of prevention is regular teeth cleaning sessions with your pet and these can be carried out at home. Regular teeth cleaning reduces the need for a professional dental clean and is a great way to spend some quality time with your pet.
